OUR LEATHER STANDARD
Leather is our primary material and every decision regarding the selection of our leathers has a big role on our final products’ look. We select premium leathers, which means they are full grain, very strong and tanned carefully in high standard tanneries.
To keep the quality high and reduce our environmental impact, we select our leathers only from Leather Working Group (LWG) Gold Rated tanneries.
OUR VEGETABLE TANNED CALF LEATHER

Your Tomologo bag is made from premium quality Turkish vegetable tanned leather, also known as vachetta leather. Thanks to its natural tanning process, It has less environmental impact, more natural look and it will transform a patina in your hands over time.
In the vegetable tanning process the scratch marks of the cattle remain visible in the final product and we try not to cut them out, unless they are very distinguishing.
We like the idea of keeping everything natural, but it’s not always the best solution. This is why we choose to use a protective coat on our leathers to make them last longer.
OUR CHROME TANNED LAMBSKIN LEATHER

Our lambskin leather is used in our linings to create a warm, creamy and luxurious touch. There are 2 big questions regarding chrome leathers;
1 – Are they safe to use?
2 – Are they bad for the environment?
We asked ourselves the same thing, and came to a conclusion:
1 – Chrome leathers have a risk of health if not processed in the right tanneries, otherwise there are no health risks proven so far, we select LWG certified tanneries.
2 – Their environmental impact is higher than vegetable tanned leather and this is why we limit the usage of chrome tanned leather and we are constantly searching for a better alternative.
