LEATHER BAG CARE
Leather, despite undergoing numerous processes during its production, breathes just like our skin and requires regular care to ensure it can be passed down through generations. The more carefully you maintain it, the longer it will last.
Your Tomologo T-Line bag, crafted from premium vegetable-tanned leather by skilled artisans, requires attention in three key areas to age beautifully: Cleaning, Maintenance, and Storage. For further details on vegetable tanning and how leather develops patina over time, please refer to our articles on “What is Vegetable Tanning?” and “How Does Vegetable-Tanned Leather Age?“
HOW TO CLEAN A LEATHER BAG
Vegetable-tanned leather is more prone to staining as it is produced with little chemical protective layer. Below, we outline some essential steps to keep your bag clean. To prevent your bag from staining easily, the simplest form of care is to regularly wipe it with a lightly damp cloth (without soap or detergent) and use specially formulated creams or lotions for leather care.
Oils / Hand Creams
Newly applied hand creams may leave oil stains on your bag, so ensure your hands are clean when handling it. Regular application of leather protective lotion will help prevent oil marks.
Items Inside Your Bag
Store makeup products in a separate pouch and ensure the caps of pens are tightly closed to prevent small accidents.
Dark Denim Fabrics
The dye in denim fabrics can easily transfer, especially on light-colored leather bags. When using a light-colored bag, carefully choose your clothing to avoid color transfer. If your bag does get stained despite precautions, we recommend taking it to a professional cleaner rather than attempting to remove the stain yourself.
Water Droplets
Vegetable-tanned leather is sensitive to water. Your Tomologo bag has been treated with a protective layer against light water exposure. To enhance its water resistance, you may use a specialized waterproofing spray for leather once a year.
If your bag gets excessively wet, leave it to dry away from heat sources (such as radiators or hairdryers) and lightly stuff it with paper to help it maintain its shape.
HOW TO CARE FOR A LEATHER BAG

Leather care is similar to skincare. Just as we moisturize our skin to prevent it from drying out and cracking, we should nourish and hydrate our leather bags with appropriate creams or lotions.
Applying a leather care cream to a clean bag every six months will not only nourish it but also help prevent quick staining. Keep in mind that different care products have varying formulations, so we recommend testing the product on a small, inconspicuous area of the bag before applying it to the entire surface.
To preserve the natural color of your bag, opt for colorless or transparent creams/lotions.
LEATHER MARKS AND SCRATCHES

If we observe our own skin, we can see it is not perfectly smooth. Our skin carries the memories of past experiences—whether it’s from falling off a bicycle or burning our hand while cooking.
Full-grain vegetable-tanned leather, being less processed than chrome-tanned leather, naturally bears marks from the animal’s life. Therefore, it is entirely normal to see slight imperfections on your bag, and over time, as it develops patina, it will become a unique piece. However, to prevent excessive scratching, we recommend regular maintenance.
HOW TO STORE A LEATHER BAG
If you want your bag to age beautifully, it is essential to store it carefully when not in use. Here are some key points to ensure proper storage:
Keep Away from Direct Sunlight
Although leather naturally loses its color over time, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can accelerate this process and cause uneven fading. When storing your bag, keep it in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight.
Avoid Airtight and Damp Environments
Just like our skin, leather needs to breathe. When not in use, protect your bag from dust and stains by placing it in a cotton dust bag designed for this purpose. Avoid storing your bag in plastic bags, as these restrict airflow and may lead to moisture buildup.
Maintain Its Shape
When using or storing your leather bag, avoid overstuffing it. Leather is a flexible material that can lose its shape. Before storing your bag in a closet, gently stuff it with paper to help maintain its form.
METAL ACCESSORY CARE

At Tomologo, we extend the same level of care to our accessories as we do to the leather. All our metal accessories are made from zamac, a durable and recyclable alloy compatible with genuine leather.
Just like your leather bag, metal accessories will wear down if not treated with care. To ensure the longevity of your bag’s metal components, protect them from scratches and oxidation. Avoid contact with disinfectants, creams, or sweaty hands. By using a special metal protector lotion designed for Zamac, you can shield your accessories from rust caused by oxygen and water, as well as from scratches.
By following these guidelines, you will help preserve the beauty and integrity of your Tomologo leather bag, allowing it to age gracefully and continue to be a treasured part of your collection for years to come.
